Ok
so here is another shot which should be pretty Obvious to people in
the know.
JJ
Abrams’s Grandfather’s name was Kelvin. So JJ makes it a point in
all of his projects to place that name at different places.
Some obvious, some just slightly noticeable. Here is one example
in Star Trek Into Darkness that he made it perfectly clear.
Kelvin is the name of JJ Abrams' Grandfather whom he loved dearly. JJ always puts his Grandfathers name everywhere that he can possibly can.
This could be a possible Easter Egg. Because what it looks like is the Photon Torpido used in Star Trek the wrath of khan. And Star Trek : The search for spock.
